About QR Code

A QR Code is a two dimensional barcode that stores various types of information. For example, the QR Code below contains a hyperlink to the EasyShare page on the Android Market:

EasyShare can generate and scan QRCodes using the ZXing open-source barcode image processing library. You can also represent contact information in a QR Code, and put it on a business card or web site. When you scan it with Barcode Scanner, the results screen provides a choice of actions:

QR Codes can contain the following types of information:

  • Hyperlinks (URLs), which you can open in a web browser
  • Contact information, which you can add to your address book
  • Calendar events, which you can add to your Calendar
  • Phone numbers, which you can dial
  • SMS numbers, which you can text message
  • Email addresses, which you can email
  • Geographic coordinates, which you can open in Maps
  • Plain text, which you can read, then share with a friend
