Fancy Widget v2.1.4 and Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.4 Released

Another update of Fancy Widget is now available on the Android Market. Here's what's new:

For all users:

  • New option: forecast background transparency. This option replaces the "solid forecast background" option. You can now use a slider to set the transparency level for the forecast activity background.
  • Improved widget background transparency option. When you apply a new clock skin, the transparency setting will be automatically applied to the new skin. This also leads to some delay while applying new skins. If you are just trying out new skins and don't wait this delay, please reset the widget background transparency to 100% before applying new skins.
  • Improved preference management. Note that some settings (e.g., widget tap actions) will get lost due to this change, so you may have to re-configure those options after update.
  • Fixed location updates in some cases.
  • Tweaked forecast layout.
  • Fixed date format in Hungarian and Polish.
  • Updated some language translations.

For pro users only:

    • New options: hide humidity and hide wind condition. These two options apply to the weather-only widget.
    • New option: enable skin cache. This option deserves some lengthy explanation.

By default, all FW skins are installed on your device's external storage: the SD card. When you mount your device to a computer via USB, the SD card becomes unavailable to the widget. Since FW no longer has access to the skins, it reverts to the default skin. Later, when you turn off USB storage, the widget regains access to the skins and will automatically reapply them in a few seconds.

Now with this new option, you current clock skin and weather skin can be cached in your device's internal storage. Since the internal storage is always accessible, the widget would remain the current skins even when you mount the device to a computer via USB.

Here are a few things you need to know before turning on this option. First of all, please make sure that you have enough internal storage space to cache the skins. You may want to skip this option if you have very limited internal storage, which applies to some older Android devices. Another thing to keep in mind is that enabling the skin cache may also cause some delay when you apply new skins, because any skin you select will be automatically cached. It would be a better idea to keep this option turned off when you are just playing with different skins. When you update your current skin from the FW market, the cached files won't be updated automatically. You need to manually update the cache by turning this option off and then on again. Last but not least, you may want to keep this option off if you are a skin developer and you're designing new skins.

Update: Fancy Widget v2.1.4.1 and Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.4.1 updated some language translations. The pro version also fixes a bug that may launch the forecast screen when unlocking the device, if unlock animation is enabled.

All right. Some new skins for everyone.

  1. Tried this out (Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.4 ). Works and looks great, unfortunately – it seems to forget all of my settings if my phone stays inactive for a while. Tried doing fresh install and rebooting, still forgets. Not just clock/weather skin settings, but everything: refresh interval, farrenheit/celcius setting etc.

    Any ideas?

  2. Love the app!

But when I try to download skins from within the app it says Failed to load skins list… Plz fix. I’m not in the US if that has anything to do with it.

    • Please make sure that you have stable Internet connection on your phone. It may also be that the skin server was overloaded at the time or temporarily unavailable. In this case, please try again later.

  3. All that’s missing from fancy widget is a calendar would be nice.

  4. I have updated the translation of your app. Could you please let me know by email when you make a change to the app, so that I can follow up with the translation? Thanks 🙂

    • Thanks for the translation. Currently, there are tens of contributing translators for this project, and I don’t think I can inform everyone by email when I make any changes. However, you may subscribe to the project activity RSS feed to get notified whenever I update the project files.

  5. Bought the app just will not load.

  6. Very nice

  7. I just purchased it but I have a question….is the animation feature supposed to work like HTC sense? Bc that’s why I downloaded it, I don’t want it if the animations are only going to work when I go into the weather.

  8. I just purchased it but I have a question….is the animation feature supposed to work like HTC sense? Bc that’s why I downloaded it, I don’t want it if the animations are only going to work when I go into the weather. Can I getta refund if it doesn’t offer that feature?

    • Please go to advanced settings and turn on unlock animations. Note that the animations do not work exactly the same way as HTC Sense, due to some limitations of the Android framework. Please read the FAQ for more information.

  9. Can’t even download new skins.
