Fancy Widget v2.1.6 and Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.6 Released

A new version of Fancy Widget is now available on the Android Market. Here's what the new version brings:

For all users:

  • Improved widget layout for WQVGA devices (e.g., Samsung Intercept).
  • Improved forecast screen layout. Some text are made larger and more legible on devices with smaller screens. The order of menu options (Configure and Refresh) are swapped.
  • Fixed a bug with auto refresh.
  • Fixed missing weather icons for conditions such as Moderate Thunderstorms.
  • Updated some language translations.

For pro users only:

  • New option: LED color. You can now further customize weather alert notifications by assigning a specific LED color. Note that your device LEDs may not support some of the colors. Green is the most common notification color and should be supported by most devices.
  • New option: enable windshield wiper animation. This option is enabled by default, but you may turn it off if you don't like the new windshield wiper animation.
  • Tweaked cloud and fog animations.
  • Fixed a FC bug when turning off skin cache.
  • Other minor UI improvements and bug fixes.

Update: Based on users' feedback, the new update restores the default Android Clock skin. If you want the new Honeycomb skin, you can download it here. It is also available on the Fancy Widget market for pro users.

  1. What happened to the old default font?

    • It’s replaced by the new honeycomb skin. If you prefer the old clock font, you can download and install the old clock skin.

  2. I don’t like the new look so I downloaded the old skin but how do I apply it????

  3. really don’t like the new skin!

  4. Pro user. Instled on every screen. I miss the tap option that launches thecalendar. Please retrn it. Thanks. …Thom

  5. Do NOT like the new honeycomb. Attempted to d/l previous skin. Error is not supported by my phone. Droid X. Honeycomb or this app goes……

  6. Hi Dennis ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for your update. I find the transparency settings being broken right after the update. That is, only 100% or complete removal of the background is possible at the moment. Please fix this.

And why does it force close on me while surfing the clock skins market almost all the time? This never happens to me on v1.0.5 PL5.

    Cheers,

    • I just tested and the transparency option works flawlessly. Could you re-install the widget from the Android Market? Let me know if the problem persists after that.

      • Yes, sure Dennis. It seems to work just fine after reinstalling. The force-closing also disappears. Thanks for your immediate help. I’ll let you know of further glitches I may have.

        Cheers,

  7. Wow, the new skin is garbage. I sure hope you revert back to the original.

  8. Guys, if you don’t like the honeycomb skin, you can get the old skin this way:
First, download the old skin here: Android Clock

Second, follow the instructions in the FAQ page. I copied them here for your convenience:

Q: Where can I find more skins? How do I use them?
A: For pro users, you have access to the Fancy Widget Market, where you can easily discover, install, and manage new skins. The list of available skins is growing, so check back regularly for new skins. If you are using the free version, you can also use skins, but you need to install them manually. More skins are posted on our website as we release updates. Here, we use the Crystal LED Clock skin as an example to describe the steps to install a new skin:

    1. Download the skin archive file (e.g., crystalled.zip) on your computer.
    2. Extract the contents from the archive, and you will get a skin folder named crystalled.
    3. Connect your phone to your computer via USB.
    4. Turn on USB storage from your phone.
    5. Place the crystalled folder at the following location on your SD card: /Android/data/fancywidget/clockskins/crystalled. If you are installing a weather skin (e.g., the Comic Weather skin), please place it under /Android/data/fancywidget/weatherskins/comicweather instead. You need to create any directory if it does not exist on your SD card.
    6. Turn off USB storage from your phone.
    7. Go to appearance settings and select the skin you just installed.
    8. Enjoy!

Here are a few things you need to know if you are using the free version:
    – If you have trouble downloading skin files on your Android device, please try downloading them on your computer.
    – In the above instructions, crystalled and comicweather are just two example skins. You will see different folder names with other skins.
    – Please do NOT include nested duplicate skin folders. For example, make sure you don’t have something like /Android/data/fancywidget/clockskins/crystalled/crystalled. The widget won’t be able to find the skin if you don’t have the proper directory structure.
    – There is currently a limit of 5 skins (excluding the default one) in the free version. If you have installed more than 5 skins, you will only see 5 in the list. There is no such limit in the pro version.

  9. The new skin is not horrible by any means but certainly not better than the old default skin. I downloaded the old skin to use. Other than that everything works wonders on my Eris. Keep up the good work, hopefully we will see more skins on the site.

  10. Thanks for your detailed instruction to get back old skin… New one is ugly ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks for your work and support!

  11. the new skin is terrible. i thought my phone was messing up again.

i have the old skin in my SD folder, but it wont show up in the fancywidget app so i can change the skin. any idea why?

  12. GIR, read installation and troubleshooting for skins carefully… I also fixed it after 3rd try.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • i followed the instructions, but still nothing

      • Are you sure about this part?

        – Please do NOT include nested duplicate skin folders. For example, make sure you donโ€™t have something like /Android/data/fancywidget/clockskins/crystalled/crystalled. The widget wonโ€™t be able to find the skin if you donโ€™t have the proper directory structure.

It should be in the folder named: /Android/data/fancywidget/clockskins/AndroidClock

  13. found it. the problem was /Android/data/fancywidget/clockskins/AndroidClock/AndroidClock.

so it had the duplicate folder. well i got it to work. so thanks for that. i hope to see cool stuff for this app.

    thanks

  14. i got a second problem. i can choose and apply other skins, but the honeycomb skin stays. like if i apply the TRON skin, it says it has been applied, but the honeycomb skin stays.

  15. Thank you for this widget! After adding finnish language support I’m using this instead of Beautiful widget ๐Ÿ™‚

Few suggestions for further development: ability to change “word order

  16. Thank you for this widget! After adding finnish language support I’m using this instead of Beautiful widget ๐Ÿ™‚

Few suggestions for further development: ability to change “word order” when using the “long date” option, because the default layout is incorrect here in Finland…

It would also be very cool if the homescreen weather animation would fade out, now it just disappears suddenly and this looks little odd.

  17. Like your widget but keeps forcing closed in skin market. HTC Aria thanks for your attention!

    • Did you have this issue with previous versions?

      • Hi Dennis ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to say that I mistakenly thought the force-closing issue was gone once re-installed. It is still there actually. It never force closed on me before.

        Please fix it.

        Cheers,

        • Do you get force closes for clock skins only? How about weather skins?

          • Well, it looks like the weather skins page is fine Dennis.

Is it related to a number of clock skins installed as well? I basically downloaded all available clock skins from the market. lol I love to change my clock every now and again.

BTW, TY4ur E-mail. I’ll try to do it after work then.

            Cheers,

            • Where did you get the FCs? On the Installed tab or the All tab or both?

              • Hi Dennis ๐Ÿ™‚

FYI, my device log has been sent to you. You may have read them before you read this message.

Anyway, FCs happen occasionally on the Installed tab but all the time on the All tab.

                Cheers,

  18. Thanks for continuously updating this widget! No doubt, this is the best clock-widget available. As others mentioned before, i bought the widget because of the android-skin and i was shocked when i when i saw the new honeycomb skin and realized that the old skin (android clock) is NOT available in the skin-market!!! I hope you make it available soon and please dont tell me things like “you have to download it from pc…”. I bought the app because of the pro-features and now i have to act like a free user???

  19. Thanks for bringing old default skin back, and just having a link on this site for the Honeycomb skin. That is what you should have done in the first place. I downloaded the Honeycomb skin just in case I want to do a Honeycomb theme on my phone someday.

  20. 10 oclock here and my time won’t update and it is all messed up, it displays “0 magnify glass : 2 0″…why is there a magnify glass in my time?

    • Please read the FAQ.

Q: The widget has gone crazy. It’s showing 27:86 as the time. Please fix it!
A: This should be a graphics glitch and only happens after updates. When we add new images to the application package, the market update process may mess up some resource values, which leads to weird pictures that you see on the widget. When this happens, please remove and re-add widgets on your home screen so the correct images can be displayed. You may also try re-installing the app from the market or performing a reboot to fix this issue.

  21. I would like to purchase full version but cannot find a way to use paypal. Please advise through email.

  22. Hi Dennis ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for bring back the original Android clock of yours. But the bad news is that the Fancy Widget Market is still force closing on me all the time. What’s really going on??? Please fix this too.

    Cheers,

  23. Hi Dennis, how hard it is for you to actually implement that flip clock animation ? Likw on htc sense. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • Please read the FAQ before asking questions.

Q: Can you make the clock flip, like the HTC Sense widget?
A: This may not be possible at the moment. The current Android widget framework does not support widget animations. HTC has their own widget framework, and their Sense launcher provides special support for widget animations. HTC widgets are actually not standard Android widgets, so they cannot run on non-HTC phones (or even HTC phones running a third-party launcher).

  24. Just updated to Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.6 PL1 and it doesn’t recognize my hometown anymore. This didn’t happened with previous versions (Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.4.1 for instance).

Had to restore settings with Titanium Backup and it seems to be working ok now.

  25. So I’d hoped to finally upgrade to Fancy Widget Pro with this release, but after I downloaded it I discovered that while the free version has no issues with my manual location (Johns Creek, GA), the Pro version doesn’t believe it’s a valid location. Any idea why the paid app has fewer recognized locations for weather?

    • Somehow WeatherBug does not have your city in their database. You can search by zip code (30005, 30022, 30024, 30097, 30098) to get nearby locations. If you don’t mind using Google Weather, you can switch the provider back to Google and search for “Johns Creek”.

      • Thanks so much for the speedy reply and tons of workarounds. As shady as WeatherBug’s beginnings as software was, I am perfectly ok using Google Weather. Thanks for tracking down that oddity!

  26. Next update should allow users to choose between skins. Downloading the update only allows the new fonts, you shouldn’t have to redownload older versions. An option to flip through fonts would be nice and quite convenient.

    • You can choose between the default and installed skins with the current version. It does not make much sense to provide multiple fonts because clock skins would override the font option.

  27. Tanks for bringing the old skin back! Iam very happy with the new Version!

  28. Hello โ€“

This is a brilliant app, love the graphics and customisation options. I am using the FREE version of this app.

    Just a quick question โ€“

I live in Melbourne and have noticed the weather description is showing Partly Cloudy for a long time now. The actual weather, etc. is showing fine though. The sky looks nice & clear today, however the description still shows Partly Cloudy.

Can you please give me a link to the actual Google page form where the weather information is taken from. I would just like to confirm that the information is up-to-date on my widget and that I am not having any issues with my widget not updating or showing incorrect information.

    Thanks heaps!

PS: Sorry, I mistakenly posted this comment under the older version’s comments page too.

    • For the free version, the weather provider is Google. I just checked with Google Weather. The current condition for Melbourne is indeed Partly Cloudy, with a temperature of 66F. You can check the last refresh time in refresh settings to make sure the weather is updating properly.

BTW, I just also replied your comment on the old post.

      • Google uses the term “Fair” alot on Google Weather for clear days and thats why most widgets that uses Google weather API is always stuck on “Partly Cloudy”. I’ve seen it with many different weather apps including PC weather widgets.

  29. Hey Dennis! Thanks for the prompt reply.

Ah you’re absolutely correct! Google weather indeed says Partly Cloudy!

I was searching where exactly on Google do you find the weather information… but in the end I figured out that we can simply search it via the main Google search field and voila!

Can I also please request a future enhancement, if feasible –

Is it possible to extend the forecast from 3 days to 5/7 days ahead?

    Thanks heaps!

BTW, keep up the good work!

  30. Oh OK… thanks Dennis!

  31. Why is it that the skins don’t work on lg optimus? I get an error message that says “unable to download, not compatible”

  32. The settings issue on SGS is still there ๐Ÿ™
I woke up, checked the FWP forecast and no skin, no celsius, everything is as if it came from factory…

  33. Hi,
what is new in updated version 1.0.6 PL1 ?

    Thx,
    Matrix44

  34. SIR! I got problem.

I installed Fancy Widget Pro (Legit Purchased)
Afterwhich, I decided to Uninstall the free one, but I accidentally uninstalled the Pro, so I installed the Pro again, when to market, It says Purchased, so I reinstalled.

And then, I decided have other skins in it. Problem is everything my task killer killed it, it will go back to default settings. So I hide it. So now, another problem, evrytime I reboot my phone, It will revert back to default.

Is it a Darky problem or the Fancy Widget Pro problem?

    It frequently shows this one:

“Your Copy of Fancy Widget Pro is not properly Licensed, and the application will not work normally. Would you like to buy fancy widget Pro from the Android Market Now?”

I DID BOUGHT it, what now?? Please Help me. I’m on darky’s ROM Samsung Galaxy S. And this is the only problem I have as of now.

  35. Hi,

I got a question regarding automatic recognition of my position. If I set this option, do I have to set also the GPS-option? Cause when don’t do this, fancy don’t find new position (example another city).

  36. I disable the tabs from the home widget, exit to home and it looks great. But as soon as I reboot or flip my phone to landscape the tabs appear and its not even that skins tabs its the default skins tabs. Running launcherpro on my sprint hero. Thanks

  37. I don’t lose other setting just the tabs. the number from the skin stay and the background stays hiddened just the tabs for some reason dont

    • After reboot or rotating your screen to landscape mode, can you remove and re-add the widget to see if the tabs are still there?

  38. dont like the new skin

  39. Yes removing the home widget and then adding it or going with home small does the same thing… I have to go into settings click off the checkmark to bring the tabs back then go home this brings up that skins tabs then go back into settings and check it again to make them disappear, but as soon as I rotate or reboot then I end up with the default skin tabs… its super annoying.

And i have to do it in that order because if i check it off then back on again without exiting to home it wont fix it.
    Thanks!

  40. ok. i purchased this app and it’s near perfect … i love the honeycomb skin and it’s about time to move on with those default so last years skins, furthermore i have 3 issues|questions :

    1. accuweather ? i guess nothing yet

    2. please fix the layout of fancy home for devices that use 5 row on homescreens (the current location string is cut in half from down so it’s not visible in whole)

    3. can you tell me what is the font name on honeycomb skin or maybe even the resourse where to get it

    thanks.

    • AccuWeather has been discussed quite a few times so I would suggest that you look through some older comments.

When you use the 5 row setting in your launcher, there is simply not enough space for the widget to display all the information. You may either make the widget larger using the launcher’s resizing feature or hide some of the text (e.g., location).

The clock in the honeycomb skin uses two fonts (one regular and one highlight). Each number is “weaved” by these two fonts. I don’t remember the exact names but you should be able to find the font files in the Honeycomb Preview SDK.

  41. Constant force closing when in marketplace for clock skins, but only in the “all” section of marketplace. On an HTC hero with 2.1

  42. Same thing… even when using adw

  43. I donโ€™t like the new look, where can I downloaded the old skin? In the old skin I could decide where appear the clock and where appear the weather in the new it appear in the center, in my phone do not work (acer betouch 130)

  44. Thanks, any idea when this will be?

  45. Hi Dennis,

The other day Fancy Widget (FREE VERSION) was showing the wrong temperature, so I refreshed it manually but that didnโ€™t help eitherโ€ฆ however the Last refresh date/time stamp was correctly updated. This led me to believe that Fancy Widget is successfully updating data from the Internet, but showing the wrong information.

Later I found my phoneโ€™s Internet connection wasnโ€™t working properly, which is why Fancy Widget was not able to update the weather!!

So just wondering if its possible to include a flag/status next to the Last refresh date/time-stamp info? Something like OK (or a green tick) if the last data retrieval from Internet was successfully OR an Error (or red cross) if the data retrieval was unsuccessful.

    Thanks!

  46. I am a v1 sumthing pro user, How do I update.? No option for update..

  47. I have Fancy Widget Pro v1.0.8 and Google is showing Springdale, Ar as 49F and Clear, on the widget and weather portion of the app it shows as 18F and Fair, though the 5 day is the correct information as Google. Even after an update and phone restart this persists and has been very wrong for several days. The default news/weather widget shipped with Android is showing the correct information
